City seeks naming nominations for youth sports field

The City of Tracy seeks nominations from the Tracy Community for the naming of the new youth sports fields under construction at the intersection of Tracy Blvd. and Sugar Rd. The project is located on a parcel of land previously owned by the Spreckles Sugar Company (“Holly Sugar”).

A subcommittee of the Parks Commission will receive and review all nominations. The below criteria will be used to rate the submissions:

• Historical significance
• Geographic significance/location
• Name significance to the complex functionality (youth sports leagues)
• Individual or family history/significance in Tracy

The commission will present final recommendations to City Council at the regular council meeting scheduled for December 4, 2012. At this meeting, Council will discuss the commission recommendations and approve a name for the fields.

Spraying Updates Current Spraying Operations:

Ground & air spraying locations, dates, and times are listed below. Map, if available, is also attached. In response to increased adult mosquito populations and/or the detection of West Nile Virus, the District is preparing to conduct adult mosquito control operations in the following area(s):

Ground spraying for adult mosquito control using MGK Pyrocide 7396 or Pyronyl 525 is is scheduled for the morning of Friday, August 12, 2011, between 3:30 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. or the morning of Saturday, August 13, 2011, between 3:30 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.

Portion of North Stockton > North to Bear Creek, > South to Mosher Slough, >East to
Union Pacific Railroad, > West to Davis Rd.

San Joaquin County Superior Court in Manteca to undergo renovations

MANTECA - The Manteca Branch of San Joaquin County Superior Court, located at 315 East Center Street, will be under renovation beginning the week of May 30. The modular courtroom and staffing areas will be replaced with permanent structures.

The renovation is currently estimated to be completed by December 2011. The renovation is being funded through local courthouse construction funds provided by the County of San Joaquin to the Superior Court of San Joaquin County as authorized by the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Business hours will remain the same: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Although there will be some modifications to the public lobby, we anticipate no disruption in service to the public.

The Ripon Historical Society & Museum is getting ready for a move

RIPON - The Ripon Historical Society & Museum is getting ready to move to a new site at 430 West Main Street. The building is getting a new energy efficient ceiling with high efficient lighting. The heating and air is also getting an upgrade to make it efficient and cost effective.

The building is a most appropriate spot for the Historical Society and Museum when one looks at its history. The building was originally built to be the Ripon Memorial Library. In 1938, a committee of Ripon citizens was organized to raise funds for a new library in Ripon. This effort got a real boost when it was announced in 1939 that the Swedish Mission Church (today know as Heartland Community Church) would donate the lot for the new library. It was an arduous task raising the money for the new building.

After nine years of effort with a war and other concerns the Ripon Lions Club revived the interest.
