Suspected Christmas crooks busted in Ripon | Crime
RIPON, Calif. - Two men were arrested in Ripon on Friday after being caught with stolen tools and Christmas decor in their vehicle, according to the Ripon Police Department.
Sergeant Steve Merchant said Ripon officers conducting burglary patrols in the vicinity were dispatched to the area of Atlantic Ave. and Sea Gull Ct. at 11:21 p.m. in response to a call of a possible theft in progress.
Upon arrival, the officers located Robert Emerson Wangelin, 39, and Bobby John Essary, 39, in a black Acura Integra, along with undisclosed burglary tools, a Christmas igloo decoration, and property suspected of being stolen, said Merchant.
The victim of a reported vehicle burglary and Christmas decoration theft then positively identified tools and personal property, including the igloo, worth more than $1,800 that had been stolen from his truck, Merchant said.
Wangelin and Essary were arrested and booked into San Joaquin County jail on counts of auto burglary, conspiracy, and grand theft. Wangelin was also booked on an additional count of parole violation.
Merchant credited close cooperation between citizens and officers for the arrest.
