Crime

ESCALON, CA - Two people were arrested after police busted a produce stand for dealing marijuana.

Escalon police officers served a search warrant at a produce stand on the 17000 block of Brennan Road just before 11 a.m. after officers, who conducted two traffic stops near the stand, smelled marijuana, Sgt. Dustin Brookshire said.

After the second traffic stop, officers realized the pot smell was not in the car. They looked around and found plants growing behind the grapes, strawberries and corn located behind the property.

Brookshire said officers found 77 marijuana plants and processed plants with an estimated value of $300,000.

Police arrested Cola Sychampanakhone and Khansao Sychampanakhone. Investigators are trying to determine if the suspects operated the business or just employees.
