San Joaquin Partnership Annual Meeting: Good News! Good Jobs! Good Future! for San Joaquin USA

San Joaquin Partnership Annual Meeting: Good News! Good Jobs! Good Future! for San Joaquin USA

More than 150 government, community and business leaders attended the San Joaquin Partnership and Business Council 22nd Annual Meeting this morning in Stockton.

They were lured by the invite: "San Joaquin County takes leadership in Job Growth" with the sub head of "What does it take to 'land' an Amazon deal?"

And they were not disappointed.

Fritz Grupe, Chairman of the Business Council, celebrating its 25th anniversary, began the presentation with "Businesses go where they are wanted," and went on to explain the dire San Joaquin County business climate 25 years ago: no infrastructure, high crime, no shovel ready sites and an undereducated workforce.

Tracy, CA sees positive job growth in 2012!

Recent Market Analysis information from Nielsen Claritas reports that the Tracy area has seen an increase of more than 2,500 new jobs in 2012.

The largest employment increase was in the Health and Social Services Industry with an increase of 28%, totaling 676 jobs created. A portion of the local job increase in this field is attributed to Owens-Minor, the nation's leading distributor of medical and surgical supplies to the acute-care market and a leading provider of healthcare supply chain management solutions. Owens-Minor is located in the Patterson Pass Business Park, which is serviced by the City.

Plan to attract a university to Tracy, CA may be revived

Officials from California Lutheran University took a tour of Tracy on March 1 with City Manager Leon Churchill and several local business leaders, hearkening back to a 2007 idea to bring several university extensions to the city as part of a college consortium.

That effort fizzled when the economic downtown bottomed out in 2008. But Churchill said Cal Lutheran's visit has returned the idea to the forefront.
